The Barataria Preserve of the Jean Lafitte National Park just outside of New Orleans, La., features more than 20,000 acres of bayous, swamps and marshes with alligators, nutrias and more than 300 species of birds. There’s no better way to get up and close with the local wildlife than by talking a walk down the Bayou Coquille Trail.
